My Nexus 5 Lollipop upgrade experience

Just a few day ago, my Nexus 5 has upgrade the long awaited Android version 5 Lollipop update and it change much of the way I was familiar with KitKat. It's a good and a bad thing actually. Here's my Lollipop on my Nexus 5.

The update was prompted over the air...I did set my choice to do so when connected to WiFi.

Here are some things I like and don't like and how I overcome some of the changes by personal preference...

After the full upgrade was done, I check out the Easter egg of this version that usually found in the Phone Setting > Android version by tabbing continuously at that area. It will appear a Lollipop that you can use your finger to move around the screen like you are licking it and it will soon direct you to a mini-game which work like Flappy bird but this time is lollipop as pipe and the bird was a Android.

I didn't play long as I am busy looking what is new.

One thing I like was the keyboard now have bigger key area. I is easier for me to use my fat thumb to type the wordings.

Now here are a few things I don't really like. First the phone contact now do not offer you to create new contact account on the device itself. By default all contact are now sync with Google.

The Gallery in Kitkat was removed in Lollipop. Instead they replace Google Photo for that. The first thing I did was select the Auto-Backup option  to be OFF. If you did not do that, all of your photo you have taken send to the cloud server as backup which I am not certain. The recent report that some celebrities in nude due to their photo stored in cloud was no longer secure.

Now that being said, it is too much trouble to go many clicks to see the photo on your device as how it was with Gallery Apps was suppose to be. To resolve that, go to Google play and download this Apps call Quickpic. That will offer allow you on how the application is like.

They have upgrade to the latest chrome and all the tab are separated. I personally prefer how it was and thank God there was a work around.first select the Setting...

Then select the Merge Tabs and Apps.

Finally I can get back the familiar tab display all in one app view .

I noticed that the battery seems to be improved but I still having teething issue in term of user experience as I was rather used to KitKat. Will update more on my experience.

Android Apps to Mosaic or Censor Photo

This is a part 2 of a App on Android I am using as the last app post on censor photo was quite out of date.

Today the Apps I am sharing is Pixelot which does nothing but censoring part of photo you took on your Android phone.

Now this Apps offer FREE but limited features but good enough for most user who want just somethings in their photo to be masked.

First it offers direct camera where you use camera to take a photo and straight away you can select which section you want to apply the Mosaic or you can go into gallery of your devices to select a picture to apply the masking.

Once you select a picture, you will see it in the layout

There are different Mosaic to choose from but for FREE version, only the square and that is good enough for basic.

Once you select the type, you can select how many pixel size of the Mosaic. If you need to censor more, you can select the bigger value. However in censorship, it is best to choose a good enough Mosaic size so you can retain more of the whole photo looks but do let people to make out some information.

Once you are ready, you can use your finger to draw out the part you want to censor. As you move your finger along, you can see there is a line following your finger path. Once it is in complete loop, that area within the loop would be Mosaic.

It would look like the following as I censored the barcode of the product.

In cases you want to undo, you can only choose on Revert as it will reset to the original photo stage. If you like what you did, you can click on Save.

You can use more advance features if you decided to purchase the Apps. You may try it out for FREE.

You can get on Google play to get that Apps here

Do you find this useful?

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is it better?

Tomorrow Xiaomi Singapore noon time sales will be releasing first time in Singapore Redmi Note 4G and they been doing video advertisement on how fast it is surfing the web with comparison with other model. It's good news right since the last Redmi Note was not even a 4G.

If you thought it was so, allow me to point to you some of the specs between the Redmi Note and Redmi Note 4G

Stating the obvious, 4G offer LTE which is faster surfing speed and the Wifi is offering Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac which is dual-band instead of the old RedNote Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Do note if you connecting to Wifi, the wireless router you are connection must offer the dual band if you want to maximized that feature.

For SD storage the Redmi Note 4G allow the maximum of 64GB. For camera or video fans, there isn't any difference for screens and the camera specifications as they are no upgrade on that.

As for battery, it remain the same capacity which is Li-Po 3200 mAh battery so they need not produce another battery maybe...

Now here's the parts that you may REALLY want to know

The old Redmi Note uses an Octa-core 1.4/1.7 GHz Cortex-A7 (8 processors) but the new Redmi Note 4G is running on Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A7 (4 processors). In plain English, the new Redmi Note 4G is using a slower processor and if you play games or some processor demanding app, you may notice some difference.

Another thing you may want to know is that the new Redmi Note 4G is no longer offering Dual sim which most Xiaomi user enjoyed. NO DUAL SIM!!

If now you would rather go for the old Redmi Note thinking it should be selling at SGD$199, I have bad news for you. As of the website today, Redmi Note cannot be found. This may mean Xiaomi Singapore will no longer selling the old model.

So if you were consider to get the old Redmi Note, now you may want to consider more to get the Redmi Note 4G as it's higher pricing with some of the upgrade.

The new Redmi Note 4G will be selling at SGD$229. Good luck for tomorrow purchase if you want it.

Xiaomi 16000mAh Mi power bank Coming

Power bank is never enough and Xiaomi did something right to offer good and affordable power bank. In fact Power Banks was always a hot seller in their weekly sales that gone within 1 minutes in Singapore sales.

Current Xiaomi offers 5,200mAh and 10,400mAh capacities and if you think it is still not enough due to a longer hour on the road, here comes the 16,000mAh!

On 11th November, Xiaomi at China end will be introducing the 16,000mAH at 99 CNY on 11 November 2014 but will sell at regular pricing at 129 CNY around SGD $28.00 after that.

The 16,000mAh Power Bank take on a silm width but add on the length which make it better when place in pocket I suppose. This will offer more power hungry user to get it.
